High-reasoning model that plans code changes in the Aider two-role pipeline.
Documents the Architect role in Aider's architect/editor mode (aider.chat, 2024-09-26). The Architect uses a capable reasoning model (e.g. o1-preview) to think through what changes to make, then passes instructions to the Editor. Key insight: separating reasoning from edit-format compliance allows using a stronger model for planning and a faster model for formatting. Benchmark: o1-preview (architect) + o1-mini (editor) = 85.0% on SWE-bench. Source: Aider blog.
