Edit-format specialist that applies code changes in the Aider two-role pipeline.
Documents the Editor role in Aider's architect/editor mode (aider.chat, 2024-09-26). Receives precise edit instructions from the Architect and applies them in the correct edit format (diff, whole-file, etc). A smaller/faster model (e.g. o1-mini, DeepSeek) is effective in this role because the reasoning challenge is already handled by the Architect. Benchmark: Claude 3.5 Sonnet as both architect and editor = 80.5%; Claude 3.5 Sonnet (architect) + itself (editor) tested. Source: Aider blog.
Performance is measured where the work happens — at the team level. Aider Editor runs inside 📐 Aider Architect/Editor, whose windowed metrics are the honest unit of account.
